Project Description: Utilize ANSYS CFD to simulated the effects slight changes in speed, and equipment components will make. The equipment is basically a large cylinder 10' diameter, 33' in length (a blender), with 6 inch lifters equally spaced around the inside diameter of the cylinder to lift the product being moved inside. The material being processed is wood flakes, and the process is the application of 2 or 3 different chemicals. The process is continuous, so the cylinder or drum has an infeed and outfeed. I'm looking for the ability to make simulation changes in internal deflector plates and the position of spray nozzles and speed/rpm of the drum, including the variation of throughput from a target of plus or minus 25% target flow. The most import aspect of the simulation is the dynamics of the material from a radial perspective to understand the lift and falling dynamics of the particles relative to deflector plates and spray atomizing nozzles. Particle sizes, densities of the material being sprayed and the material being coated are all available. The dynamics of the air around the spray nozzles will also be important to minimize build up. This process is very similar to the process used by pharmaceutical companies to add a coating to pills, or a food manufacture uses to coat candy except it is on a large scale and continuous rather than batch feed. Total flow through the blender is approximately 15 tons/hr, and 1000 liters/hr of liquid chemicals added via spray nozzles. More specific input information will be provided.
